The Quarter Moon and Friends, Setting an Example
The quarter moon sits nearly alone in an early-morning powder blue sky. Even though it only shows a part of itself, the power that it commands is unmistakable. I know there is more to that moon, though it waits it’s turn to light up fully and show it’s capability. One visible star fades from view dissolving into what I can only imagine. The rising sun makes itself known by splashing some pink along the sidelines of the earth peeking over the edges of a cluster of clouds that look, this morning, like mountains. They hover over the Great South Bay and dissolve slowly. I can’t see the water though I know it is there and that knowing provides comfort. Familiar though different each waking day. I can almost allow myself to believe that these elements have feelings, emotion; and wonder how something so powerful and energized can not. Perhaps the force is just an example to humanity in what we could continue to strive for though never quite reach. We cannot as one be as powerful as any of those individual elements, let alone the power of all of them. We are not meant to. Just being and doing what we are led to; keeping the sun, and the moon, and the bay and the stars in our periphery, is perhaps the entire point. Every day, all day striving to get a little closer. Sometimes feeling like a quarter moon where we only reveal a portion of what we are capable of, though knowing we are full and whole and bright in ways that may not yet be seen. Sometimes fading like the loan star, entering into a space that can only be imagined. Or highlighting the edges of the earth like the sunrise, offering hope for new light, unique every day with possibility. Or flowing with the ever changing tides of the bay which sometimes can’t be seen though knowing, because of faith, that it’s there. I can’t think of a better example for me, for any of us to connect with, to let deep in our souls and penetrate our being.
